The Caring Group.

For owners thinking about succession, retirement or simply what happens next — a straightforward conversation with people who have run funeral homes themselves.

Why owners call us

A funeral home is not an ordinary business to sell.

It carries your family’s name, your staff’s livelihoods and a century of promises to people who are still living. Most owners we meet are less worried about the price than about what happens to all three.

The Caring Group is a privately owned Western Canadian company run by funeral service professionals — not a fund, and not a national chain. We now have ten homes across Alberta and British Columbia, and every one of them still trades under its own name.

If you are weighing retirement, a succession plan with no obvious successor, or just wondering what your options are, we are glad to talk. Ask us anything you like, and we will give you a straight answer.

What stays the same

We buy the business. We do not replace it.

The name on the door stays.

Your home keeps its own name, its own signage and its own place in the community. The Caring Group is the corporate name, not the public one — every home in the group trades as itself.

Your people keep their jobs.

The directors and staff your families already know stay where they are. They are the reason the home works, and the first thing we would protect.

The care does not change.

Families should notice nothing except that the home is steadier. Same chapel, same faces, same way of doing things — with more behind it.

What we bring

The work you did not get into this for.

Most owners we meet are tired of the administration, not of the families. The group exists to take the first and protect the second.

Pre-need administration

Trust accounting, regulatory filing and the paperwork that comes with contracts written decades ago.

Buying power

Caskets, vehicles, stationery and insurance negotiated across the group rather than one home at a time.

Relief and cover

Licensed colleagues who can step in for a holiday, an illness, or simply a week with three services in it.

Training and licensing

Apprenticeships, continuing education and a path for the young person you have been hoping to keep.

Marketing and web

Obituary systems, websites and advertising handled centrally, built around your name rather than ours.

Compliance

Alberta and British Columbia regulations, inspections and audits, with people who do this every day.

How it works

Four steps, and you can stop at any of them.

01

A conversation

One call or a coffee, with no obligation and nothing to sign. Many owners talk to us for a year or two before anything happens, and some decide the answer is no.

02

Understanding the business

We look at the books, the building and the pre-need obligations together. You will know what we see and how we arrived at a figure.

03

An offer you can sit with

A fair price, clearly explained, with the terms set out plainly — including what happens to your staff and your name.

04

A handover at your pace

Some owners leave at closing; some stay on for years. We have done both, and the choice is yours.

Questions owners ask

Will my family's name come off the building?

No. Every home in the group trades under its own name — Martin Brothers, Eden's, Fantin's, Prairie Sunset. Your name is the reason families walk through the door, and removing it would cost us both.

What happens to my staff?

They stay. We buy homes because of the people in them, and in several of our locations the previous owner's team is still running the business years later.

Can I keep working?

If you would like to. Some owners want a clean retirement date; others want to keep serving families without the paperwork. Both are normal.

When would my staff and my community find out?

When you are ready to tell them, and we will help you plan how. We have done this often enough to know that the announcement matters almost as much as the decision.

What about my pre-need contracts?

We take them on and honour them. Administering pre-need properly is one of the things a group does better than a single home.

I am not ready to sell. Should I still call?

Yes. Succession is easier to plan three years out than three months out, and an early conversation costs you nothing.
